Job Summary:

The primary role of the Lead Program Assistant is to guide, enhance and provide effective assistance and support under the direction of the Program Coordinator of the peer-run mental health and addiction recovery program. The Lead Program Assistant, is the back-up assistant and works in conjunction with the Program Coordinator, to organize operational and program services within company policies and mission.  This individual effectively communicates and interacts with the Program Coordinator to ensure positive workplace culture is established and maintained and efficient support services are offered to participants.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist Program Coordinator with duties as assigned:

  • Use positive negotiation and effective listening communication skills to resolve complex and challenging employee and participant issues and create effective solutions to resolve challenges;
  • Work as an integral team member with Executive Team, staff members, volunteers and participants to promote uplifting and positive workplace culture;
  • Maintain consumer confidentiality;
  • Create, coordinate, and disseminate staff work schedules to ensure center has required coverage and adequate staff is scheduled to support community field trips;
  • Co-Conduct annual employee evaluations and follow RPSV progressive disciplinary policies as required;
  • Conduct groups and motivate participants to engage;
  • Ensure groups and all program activities and services are being conducted as scheduled, the desk is covered and all staff are educating participants about program services;
  • Serve as a positive role model and lead all participant activities with mutual respect, encourage self-empowerment, personal responsibility, and peer collaboration;
  • Check and respond to emails and take actions necessary in response to emails from other staff, the Management Team and others;
  • Observe all activities in order to detect hazards, disturbances, and safety issues;
  • Report facility and safety issues to RPSV Operations Manager and follow established procedures if external responders must be contacted;
  • Ensure collection of reporting requirements as needed;
  • Manage and maintain proper incident record keeping procedures;
  • Ensure staff keep kitchen and office supplies well stocked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and/or experience with individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse issues;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage scheduling of employees;

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Completion of High School.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s license with fewer than six demerit points (or equivalent in another state) at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment;
  • Peer Support Specialist Certificate within a year of employment.
